| The Microsoft Passport Network is an online service that lets you use just one set of credentials—your e-mail address and password—to sign in to and use all sites and services on the network. This means that you don't have to remember numerous sign-in names and passwords. |
| You can sign up for credentials at a site or service on the Passport Network, or at the Microsoft Passport Network home page. |
| For information about personal information stored by the Passport Network and how that information is shared with sites on the Passport Network, review the Microsoft Passport Network privacy statement. |
How the Passport Network helps protect your privacy The Microsoft Passport Network helps protect your privacy and your personal information in several ways, including: |
Requiring that you type your password to sign in to sites and services on the Passport Network or to access your account information. |
RUsing industry-standard security technologies to encrypt your password and e-mail address whenever they are transmitted over the Internet. |
Requiring that you type the numbers and letters you see in the picture after several unsuccessful sign-in attempts have been made. This helps keep automated programs from guessing your password. For more information, see Type characters from a picture. |
Collecting and processing personal information only when necessary to:
 Operate an authentication service.
Improve security and provide customer support for the Passport Network. |
Not sharing the information stored by the Passport Network with a site or service on the Passport Network unless you explicitly choose to provide it by clicking Sign In. For more information, review the Microsoft Passport Network privacy statement. |
Tracking sign-in attempts for security purposes. The logged information is not linked with personal information unless you call the service to request assistance. |
Important The Passport Network does not control or monitor the privacy practices of all sites and services on the Passport Network. The privacy practices of those sites will vary. However, all sites or services on the Passport Network must have a posted privacy statement. To determine how each site or service will use the information it collects, you should carefully review the privacy statement for each site that you sign in to. |
